Montreal native Rick Tirelli grew up in the suburb of St-Leonard, a predominantly Italian neighbourhood, keenly aware of so-called Italian stereotypes. Perhaps that’s why Tirelli’s World Cup predictions didn’t include a victorious Azzurri – a prophecy that turned out to be accurate well in advance of Italy’s elimination from the tournament.

Tirelli will admit, however, to being as passionate as his Italian ancestors, wearing his heart on his sleeve and indulging in a little bluntness from time to time. “The one time I can remember this getting me into trouble was when my close friend asked my opinion of this girl he was dating,” Tirelli said. “Long story short, my opinion wasn’t favourable and needless to say I wasn’t a part of the bridal party when they got married.”
