Hailing from Fonthill in the heart of the Niagara region, Brent Furtney is a former high school English teacher with a B.A. in Phys. Ed. who has set his sights on becoming a big city sportscaster. A lifelong sports enthusiast, when he wasn’t marking grammar quizzes or explaining Shakespeare in his teaching days, he coached volleyball, basketball and, as he says, “pretended to coach rugby”.

When asked what sets him apart from the competition, Brent says it’s his unique personality and sense of humour. “I am confident that I can combine a quirky sense of humour and a strong knowledge of sport in an interactive, fun forum for viewers,” he said. “I also have a number of chess trophies, own a Vuvuzela and recently decided to bike from Barrie to Ottawa on a whim. Am I spontaneous? Yes. But becoming a sportscaster in Gillette DRAFTED 2 was not a spontaneous decision – this is something I believe I was born to do”.
